When I think about who I am, I think about my compassion, my empathy, and what I’ve worked hard to build. Most, if not all, of the work I do originates in a place of consideration for others and the things I am most passionate about. That’s why I’ve always been so focused on animal welfare. I love animals and I want them to have the best lives possible. So, I focus on what I can do to help them, from both direct (what I can do to take care of the animals I provide for and that live near me) and distant (what research and activism I can do for the animals that aren’t under my personal care) standpoints. This degree of care also extends to the entire natural environment as well as other people– especially those that are routinely disadvantaged by social systems. Furthermore, from the work I’ve done throughout my life thus far, I have developed abilities to read people and animals, mitigate conflict, enhance teamwork, and encourage collaboration. Besides that, I have also worked hard to build my writing skills. I’ve always been told by people around me that I am a “good” writer, but I feel like in the past I have gotten stuck in writing about one thing, or in one style. So, I make it a priority to vary my writing as much and as often as I can, meaning that I have developed an array of writing skills (in nonfiction and fiction) that could serve useful on a team.
